ZviDance

Guided by the choreographic vision of Zvi Gotheiner, for over 30 years ZviDance has made work that fearlessly refuses to be bound to specific thematic or aesthetic dogma. Each piece boldly addresses the depths of the human experience with a passionate vision of community in the modern age. The company performs frequently at home in such New York City venues as the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Joyce Theater, New York Live Arts and Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors. ZviDance has toured across North America to festivals such as Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and The American Dance Festival, and abroad to Germany, Poland, Russia, Israel, Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador and Japan. For this Gala, ZviDance will share excerpts from THE FIELD, an evening-length piece for seven dancers that premiered at New York Live Arts in March 2024.

Yoshiko Chuma

Yoshiko Chuma (conceptual artist, choreographer/artistic director of The School of Hard Knocks) has been a firebrand in the post-modern dance scene of New York City since the 1980s, has been consistently producing thought-provoking work that is neither dance nor theater nor film nor any other pre-determined category. She is an artist on her own journey, a path that has taken her to over 40 “out of the way” countries and collected over 2000 artists, thinkers and collaborators of every genre since establishing The School of Hard Knocks in 1980. 

Buglisi Dance Theatre

The award-winning Buglisi Dance Theatre is acclaimed for multi-cultural, socially-relevant dances on the human condition that reveal the heroic spirit, strengths and vulnerabilities of humanity. Founded in 1993 by Artistic Director Jacqulyn Buglisi, and Capucilli, Dakin and Foreman, former Principal Dancers of the Martha Graham Dance Co., BDT has been commissioned and has performed NYC seasons at The Joyce Theater, Chelsea Factory, New York Live Arts, Ailey Citigroup Theater; tours across the U.S. from Jacob’s Pillow to the Vail International Dance Festival; and abroad in Australia, Czech Republic, Mexico, Israel, and Italy. In partnership with Lincoln Center, BDT presents the Table of Silence Project 9/11, a multi-cultural performance ritual and call to action for peace, and streamed live around the globe.

Company | E

Company | E is a DC-based repertory dance company whose work is created through international artistic and cultural exchanges. Using dance, music, storytelling, film-making and the Metaverse, the Company uses uses art to bridge cultural divides, speak to the critical issues of our time and honor the idea that “there is more than unites us than divides us,” Company | E serves as Cultural Diplomats with the U.S. Department of State, and educators of artists of all ages around the globe. The Company embraces the overarching “E” words that it was named for: ecology, equity, excitement, energy, education, engagement, and so many more.
Commissioned by Company E and the Embassy of Spain in Washington, DC, FEW is about the small things in the world – the sense of what it is to be one of only a few remaining. Filled with imagery derived from the natural world, this piece is haunting yet somehow also enchanting. Made possible by the Embassy of Spain and by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Few has won hearts both here and in Spain itself.

Founded by Korean-born Young Soon Kim in 1988, the WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company is dedicated to inspiring audiences through multi-dimensional dance productions reflecting themes and philosophies both modern and timeless. We constantly strive to be a potent stimulus for progress and evolution within the dance/arts world. By producing dance concerts, festivals, and educational activities, WHITE WAVE Dance provides both nascent and seasoned choreographers / companies with an encouraging environment where they can create, collaborate, and present new works in the undisputed capital of world dance, New York City.
